TikTok, Christmas, and Never-ending Rain…

I recently forayed into TikTok in an effort to expand my reach…

On Friday night something I never thought would happen, happened. Under the advisement of a well-meaning girl friend, in an effort to expand my audience reach, I forayed into the world of TikTok. Whilst likely it was inevitable, I found it completely different to anything I know about social media and am promptly found myself bumbling around in the dark trying to find how to translate what I am comfortable doing on Instagram onto the TikTok platform. For a millennial, I admittedly do severely lack in the technology department, (I am used to someone helpful from the IT department resolving my issues) but am determined to strive on.

I’ve just popped a brand-new video on there that I’m yet to release on Instagram about Macerating Strawberries for the upcoming festive season with the promise of a post covering the exact how-to, right here on my website. I will get to that shortly! Macerated Strawberries really do have this special way of lifting the humble strawberry to new heights and is an especially good way to disguise strawberries that are starting to look a little manky from guests. The combination of a good quality spiced rum and sugar does wonders, and any piece of porous food at hand to soak it all up will be forever improved.

I’ve been on a reel festive dessert writing mission this week (get it?). With the never-ending rain, flash flooding and thunderstorms we have had here in Auckland recently, stuck inside my mind has turned to hot summer days and the feelings and food that goes with them. I have been furiously writing, testing, and filming... and my husband and father have more than happily lent their tastebuds (and stomachs) to pass verdicts on the goods. Just in case there were any flavor issues. I cannot wait to share what I have come up with so far! There is a good range from sweet to fruity, including little throw-together recipes for leftovers like brownies… if leftover brownie ever existed anywhere ever in the world.

Apart from festive season and Christmas related food, I have asked my husband to get the Christmas decorations down this weekend so I can start the task of studiously decorating the home. This year I am thinking I will take a less is more approach, as I dread the over-stimulation Christmas time will put on my still very much recovering nervous system.

Courgette-geddon also began this week. A popular word lovingly coined by our household referring to the time of year when they single courgette vine we planted starts producing 1-2 fruit a day… and we need to start having them at least once a day and offloading them to friends and whanau to enjoy also. This year the crop has been beautiful… they really look like store bought ones! I put it down to the type of feed I gave the soil this year prior to planting (a mix of pea straw and sheep pallets) and all the rain.

This week it’s meant to keep raining. whilst there is no respite, it means more chances to type up recipes on here, film goodness, and figure out how TikTok actually works. My garden will just have to wait…
